Description

We are seeking a commercially driven and strategically minded leader to take on the role of Head of Sales & Marketing for our East Africa portfolio. This is a senior commercial leadership position responsible for the integrated commercial performance of Lemala Camps & Lodges, Adrift, Grumeti Luxury Travel, and Tulia across all global markets.
The role leads Sales, Marketing, and Reservations across multiple brands and countries, with full accountability for revenue growth, pricing strategy, distribution, market positioning, and strategic commercial planning. The successful candidate will bring established luxury travel trade relationships, deep sector expertise, and the proven ability to drive commercial performance across complex multi-brand operations in the East African context.

 

Responsibilities

Commercial Performance & Revenue: Drive revenue growth, occupancy, ADR/ARR, and profitability across all brands. Lead commercial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Oversee pricing, yield, and distribution strategies to optimise channel mix, conversion, and revenue efficiency. Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging commercial opportunities.
Integrated Commercial Leadership: Lead and align the Sales, Marketing, and Reservations functions to ensure a cohesive commercial approach across all brands and markets. Ensure close collaboration across properties, activities, and DMC operations, aligning commercial objectives across Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. Oversee commercial budgets and resource allocation, working closely with operational leadership to deliver against commercial targets.
Trade & Market Relationships: Manage and develop relationships with key international agents, DMCs, consortia, and trade partners. Represent the portfolio within international luxury travel markets, leading strategic partnerships and commercial negotiations. Attend international trade shows, roadshows, and industry events to maintain strong market visibility and brand presence globally.
Marketing, Brand & Distribution: Lead brand positioning and commercial marketing strategy across all four brands, ensuring consistent brand standards across all markets. Oversee digital, PR, trade, and content activity. Support new product, property, and market launches. Oversee reservations performance and distribution strategy, improving enquiry conversion, booking pace, and commercial reporting.
Strategic Planning & Leadership: Contribute to long-term commercial growth and expansion planning, identifying new revenue opportunities and market potential. Support feasibility assessments and new business initiatives. Lead, mentor, and develop regional commercial teams, supporting succession planning and internal capability development. Contribute actively to Executive and Manco leadership forums.

The role will regularly represent the Managing Director and the broader East Africa leadership team in key internal and external engagements, including international trade forums, partner meetings, and strategic commercial sessions. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate sound commercial judgment, strong market credibility, and the ability to translate strategic intent into measurable commercial outcomes.

Qualifications and Expertise

Educational Background: A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, Hospitality, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification or MBA is advantageous.
Professional Experience: A minimum of 10 years in luxury hospitality, safari, or experiential travel sectors, with proven success leading commercial strategy and revenue growth across multiple brands or markets.
Technical Expertise: Strong expertise across Sales, Marketing, Reservations, and Revenue Management. Established international trade relationships within luxury travel markets, and strong commercial, financial, and strategic planning capability.
Regional Knowledge: Experience operating within East Africa is advantageous. Ability to operate effectively across cultures and markets. Swahili language skills are an advantage.
Leadership: Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing commercial teams in a multi-brand, multi-country environment.

Salary

The salary for this position is competitive and dependent on relevant experience.
