SENIOR LOGISTICS MANAGER

Description

To effectively plan, manage and deliver all logistical operations and movements for approved local and global sports and event projects within TDM Sports and Events. To ensure transport, accommodation, staffing, and supplier logistics are coordinated accurately, cost-effectively, and on schedule to exceed client expectations. To maintain professional relationships, reduce operational risk, and contribute to the successful delivery of events as agreed by the GM Operations and Managing Executive.

Responsibilities

Strategy:

  • Support the GM Operations and Managing Executive in planning and executing logistics strategies for confirmed events.
  • Develop and implement logistics plans to ensure timely, accurate and efficient movement of people, goods and equipment.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Participate in planning sessions with the GM Operations to align logistics delivery with broader event and divisional objectives.
  • Remain adaptable to new demands or changes within the TDM Sports and Events environment.
  • Keep abreast of trends and developments in logistics and event delivery practices.

CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Ensure logistics delivery meets or exceeds client expectations on all assigned projects.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with clients / internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide accurate and timely logistics information, documentation and updates as required.
  • Assist in resolving client concerns or changes in logistics plans promptly and effectively.
  • Promote a professional image of TDM Sports and Events at all times through service excellence.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Ensure all logistics deliverables are executed in line with agreed project timelines and client specifications.
  • Proficient use of Tourplan, Zoho, and other operational systems for costing, documentation and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate transport schedules, supplier lists, manifests and event logistics files.
  • Coordinate contracting, documentation, itineraries, and supplier confirmations for all assigned groups.
  • Ensure supplier performance and service levels meet TDM standards.
  • Actively identify ways to improve cost efficiency without compromising quality or delivery.
  • Oversee and verify accuracy of invoices, reconciliations, and supplier payments for assigned logistics.
  • Ensure contingency plans are in place for each event.

ADMINISTRATION:

  • Ensure all logistical documentation, costings and correspondence are accurate and submitted timeously.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company and client information.
  • Provide reports as requested by the GM Operations or Managing Executive.
  • Ensure compliance with all divisional policies and procedures.

MANAGEMENT OF THE OPERATIONS TEAM:

  • Assist GM Operations in supervising logistics staff and allocating responsibilities as required.
  • Monitor quality and productivity of logistics delivery across assigned events.
  • Support recruitment, training and motivation of logistics personnel where necessary.
  • Promote teamwork, communication and accountability within the operations environment.
  • Support performance management and staff development through ongoing guidance.

FINANCIAL REPORTING:

  • Assist in preparing logistics-related financial reports as required by the GM Operations.
  • Monitor and report on event logistics expenditure versus budget.
  • Ensure all supplier payments are processed accurately and on time.
  • Actively seek cost efficiencies while maintaining service standards.
  • Report on any challenges timeously to provide the necessary solutions upfront.

TEAMWORK:

  • Collaborate closely with operations, product, sales and finance teams to ensure alignment on event delivery.
  • Proactively assist colleagues in other business units as needed to ensure overall success of the event.
  • Maintain flexibility to assist outside of normal office hours when operationally required.

SUPPLIER RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key logistics suppliers and service providers.
  • Ensure best available rates and service levels are negotiated and secured.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of supplier products, capacity and reliability.
  • Source new logistics partners and solutions where needed.
  • Monitor and review supplier performance after each event.
  • Ensure effective communication for the best interest of the event movements and logistics management.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Continuously develop product knowledge, attend industry events/seminars/conferences, and participate in supplier workshops, educationals and trade shows relevant to sports industry.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and new products
  • Attend exhibitions, trade shows where necessary and relevant.

 

Qualifications and Expertise

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Experience in Tour Operations and logistics
  • Proven experience in setting up new operations procedures and systems – preferably in the events services
  • Experience in identifying and implementing training requirements
  • Experience in setting up new processes on a global scale

*This role is for a contract basis: 01 September 2026 to 31 December 2027

Salary

The salary for this position is competitive and dependent on relevant experience.
